FACULTY/STAFF > DEPARTMENTS & OFFICESRMU CITADEL > ENGAGED LEARNING CONFERENCE > PROPOSALS
Proposals

The 2015 Robert Morris University conference “Creating a Culture of Engagement” recognizes that while engaged learning, service learning and civic engagement are defined differently, they share at least one important attribute: encouraging students to think about themselves as more than just students and instead as contributors to and leaders in society.

Proposals for the conference should fall into one of two categories: panel sessions and research paper sessions.

Panel sessions will examine any aspect of engaged learning (EL), service learning (SL) or civic engagement (CE). Possible topics include but are not limited to the following: ensuring faculty buy in on the campus; assessing EL, SL or CE outcomes; determining key criteria in the identification of SL community partners; evaluating EL categories; and starting your CE office from scratch. The panel moderator should submit a proposed title and approximate 100-word abstract, as well as contact information and role descriptions for each of the panelists. Moderators are urged, though not required, to find colleagues from more than one institution.

Moderators are encouraged to consider sessions that engage and involve their audience. Interactive presentations and roundtable discussions should allow for the audience to be active participants rather than passive observers in these sessions.

PROPOSALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY AUGUST 8; MODERATORS WILL RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF THEIR PANEL IDEA NO LATER THAN AUGUST 5.

Research paper sessions can be qualitative or quantitative, and they may use any appropriate research methodology. Papers previously presented at another conference or published before the conference will not be considered. Authors of all papers should submit an abstract of approximately 100 words and one electronic version of their paper in WORD format to moretti@rmu.edu. No identifying information should be included in the paper, which will be peer-reviewed. Authors may indicate in their email to Dr. Moretti whether they are faculty or a graduate student. Proceedings from the conference will be prepared, and authors will retain full copyright of their submissions.

PAPERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY AUGUST 8; AUTHORS WILL RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF THEIR PAPER NO LATER THAN AUGUST 15.
